Muse couple Melissa and Kain took their guests on an adventure to the stunning Blue Mountains for their August winter wedding. This was always going to be a fun day when it began by heading south and where jackets and boots were a must! Their chosen venue was a rustic paradise, full of character, with cosy fires, amazing views and a beautiful pine forest in the background. Their guests were treated to a wild day full of the most unpredictable weather (at least that I have ever photographed in). We had sunshine, wind, rain and even hail! It really showcased the delicate energy of yin and yang that was present on their special day. The vendors had tough conditions to work in, but it was completely worth every minute!
Melissa and Kain met at a house party and shared their first kiss at the young age of sixteen. They began a texting relationship to overcome distance (Kain was in Sydney for school) and to get to know each other better. Soon after, Kain invited Mel to his year eleven formal and so a ten year courtship began. Falling in love so seriously at a young age really pushed them to consider a break, not because they didn’t want to be together but because they had both never felt like this and needed to let the universe pull them together once again if it was to be. Both of them didn’t change the way they felt about each other, it only solidified their heart feels and after twelve months, they were together again not looking back. This consideration really shows a certainty, their love is the real deal.
On their ten year anniversary during a holiday in QLD, Kain organised the most romantic proposal which sent Mel on a treasure hunt through a series of envelopes leading to a different destination. One for a massage, another for makeup and hair styling, a new outfit, even a ride in a limo. Eventually Mel ended up at a private estate amongst fairy lights and rose petals with a suit clad Kain standing at the top of the stairs ready to ask her that special question. Mel remembers it as the most romantic night. The amount of thought that went into every detail just showed how dedicated Kain was to making her feel special. Needless to say, Mel said yes, even before Kain could kneel! They spent the night enjoying each other’s company and feeling truly content. What a magic way to start a new journey together.
Kain says of Mel “She is such a genuine person who cares about others and is in tune with life. We grew as a team together over the years and our personalities compliment each other so well. I realised that I never wanted to be without her”.
The wedding day felt to Mel like it went by in a flash and that her wedding planning skills were sub par. But she has to laugh it off because at the end of the day she got to marry her love with their daughter in their arms while saying forever.
Everyone huddled together in the cold mountain air, or ran away as the hail set in during photos. There were beautiful milky backgrounds, with rain falling as they reminisced on the important people that had helped shape their lives. When the weather got too crazy, a cosy barn would be the place they said I do. Mel and Kain loved having their photos taken as it gave them a chance to enjoy each other after becoming Mr and Mrs. We strolled through tall grass, ventured out onto mountains, were surrounded by horses and even managed to capture a little golden light. Into the night, it was full of emotional gratitudes, good conversations and yummy food. And wow! this crowd can dance!
The perfect balance Mel and Kain are for each other. Whilst Kain pays particular attention to detail, Melissa knows how to get into action. The true essence of a marriage is not that we share everything in common but that we share things in difference but still in synergy. Marriage can embrace opposing forces but like a magnet, be stronger for it.
Thank you Melissa and Kain for choosing me to capture not only your wedding day, but all your special memories.
Thank you to this amazing team of vendors.
